This photo project is dedicated to the glaciers of the Swiss Alps. Switzerland’s glaciers are melting faster than ever, losing 10% of their volume over the past two years since 2021, a trend that has been observed across Europe. By capturing the stunning natural beauty and highlighting the dramatic changes glaciers are undergoing, this series showcases their fragility and the profound impact of climate change in our natural world.
In attempt to draw attention to the ongoing abrasion and erosion of glaciers and to simulate the effects of CO2, I layered fragments from the original photographs and used baking soda and vinegar to scratch, burn and manipulate the photographic layers. Additionally, I used these substances to simulate pollution, a key factor in the accelerated disappearance of glaciers. This visual exploration serves as a poignant reminder of the urgent need for environmental preservation and collective action to slow the rapid degradation of our natural world.
